About the Project
The Book of Abraham project began in 1998 at the Foundation for Ancient Research and Mormon Studies, later the Neal A. Maxwell Institute for Religious Scholarship. The project's purpose is to investigate the Book of Abraham as an ancient text. Book length manuscripts have been published in the series, Studies in the Book of Abraham, under the editorship of John Gee. Past co-principal investigators of the project include William J. Hamblin (1998-1999), Brian Smith (1999-2000), and Brian Hauglid (1999-2011). The University of Chicago Press distributes titles in the series.
